Provides the child with a balanced and safe sitting position with dynamic postural control which enables the child to move freely.
-
Optimal joint stability and comfort. The two surfaces in the hip joint have maximum contact in the seating position.
-
The seating position may prevent complications such as muscle contractures, hip pains and sublucations. All major joints in the lower extremities are centred, which is beneficial for the development of normal tonus and muscle length. This is especially important for the adductors, which often are spastic and lead to crossed legs in children with CP.
-
The back and spine can work actively in the natural curves. The saddle seat is adjustable in order for the pelvis to be placed/tilted in the correct position, giving child's back optimum working conditions.
-
An active seating position is better than a passive, slumped position. Passive seating positions can make hypotonic children fall forward, developing poor postural habits with secondary muscle and skeleton pains.
-
The seat and the backrest provide space for a SWASH-orthosis if required.
